In His Eyes
33 AD:
I saw myself standing in the corridors of time.
I was carried away to see
A scene I had known but forgotten
Because I had set sight on my pride.
I stood on the temple of the rock,
Brought before a scene of sheer brutality:
A selfless sacrifice -- a Man and a tree --
As a shepherd sacrifices for his flock.
I stood among those whose words were knives,
As they shouted obscenities at Innocence Himself.
With the feeling of disgust at the oppressors,
I stared at Him, the One who abandoned His wealth
To save the rebellious transgressors.
As my eyes stared up at His face --
Bruised, bloody, beaten, weary --
His swollen gaze fell towards me.
He smiled at me, love in His eyes,
Tears beginning to fall,
And the horror of that moment faded.
He saw me, two thousand generations before
I was even a twinkle in my parents' eyes,
And He remembered why...
