I don't believe in Earth Day, and here's why.
Many believe in the idea of "global warming", and many think pollution is out of control. People have this notion that if we don't act, the world will be rendered uninhabitable. These ideas have little to no proof, but that's beside the point.
As Christians, we are to enjoy God's creation. I personally love nature. Nothing says "beauty" to me like a river, mountain, forest, and the bright blue skies. However, I've always felt that Christians shouldn't buy into the idea of global warming and the "go green" ideals. That's not to say I don't care about the earth. It merely means that I know this form of earth will not last much longer as it is (because of prophecy), and that this isn't the final, perfect stage of earth.
We live in a fallen version of what was meant to be absolutely perfect. We can't stop the destruction of this earth any more than we can stop sin. The Bible says all of this will pass away- we can't stop that. However, this imperfect world will be transformed into a perfect version- it will be Eden all over the earth, and we will reign with Jesus.
So while I won't senselessly litter or destroy God's creation, I also refuse to be so worried about the continual death of this planet. I won't deny that our climate is changing, but that's part of end-time prophecy. There are far more important things to worry about, such as the many millions of unsaved souls, or the continual corruption of nations, or the constant gun deaths that people refuse to take action against.
Let's turn Earth Day into a day for the PEOPLE of earth. Let's redirect the energy many put into "going green" into efforts that will truly make a difference into eternity.
